On April 29th over 120 Northeastern faculty, and guests from other local universities, attended Northeastern’s Teaching with Technology Day 2008, sponsored by the EdTech Center, The Center for Innovation and Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CIETL), Information Services (IS), College of Professional Studies (CPS) and University Libraries.
- EdTech Demonstrations : Spring 2008
Podcasting, Educational Blogging, Virtual Worlds and More.
This semester the Educational Technology Center offered a number of short demonstrations to introduce you to new technologies and ideas you can use to enhance your teaching. Although the demos were not hands-on, we offer links to self-paced tutorials so you can try out the ideas on your own. Or you can come to the EdTech Center at your convenience for help from one of the EdTech Center’s co-op students. We will offer similar demos summer semester, so if you missed out, look for these topics again this summer and in the fall.
- Exploring ePortfolios at Northeastern
The use of electronic portfolios to collect, reflect on, and display student work is growing at all levels of education. For students, eportfolios provide a means to reflect on their educational experiences and to showcase their best work in a digital repository. For faculty, eportfolios provide concrete evidence of student learning. For institutions, eportfolios are used to evaluate progress on meeting institutional goals. The artifacts and student reflections serve as a vehicle for assessing learning outcomes at the course, program and/or institutional level.

Tech Trends for Teaching Day was a hit!
A small but dedicated crowd joined EdTech Center, ATS/IS and the Snell Library's Digital Media Design Studio for a day of Tech Trends for Teaching. Attendees saw short demos of current trends in technology and learned how to get started using them in their teaching.

- EdTech Center Co-op Students Develop Digital Stories
In addition to assisting staff with building and designing websites and consulting with faculty on Blackboard and other Web-based tools, EdTech Center co-op students write and produce a digital story about their “Northeastern Experience� during their six-month tenure.
- OSP Presentation in Amsterdam
This June Biology professor Kostia Bergman and EdTech Center instructional designer, Laurie Poklop, will present their work using Open Source Portfolio (OSP) software, now a component of the Sakai open-source learning management system, for creation of student ePortfolios and curriculum assessment at the 7th annual Sakai Conference in Amsterdam.

For the past several years e-portfolio projects have been percolating in different departments on the Northeastern campus.
