Focus Areas

The EdTech Center has conducted research and development related to the four focus areas for several years. EdTech staff have the programming, multimedia, Web design and development, and instructional design experience necessary to collaborate with faculty who want to develop projects related to ePortfolios, Games for Learning, Dynamic Media Creation, and Collaboration and Social Networking Tools.

Clickers

ePortfolios
Purpose: Assess ePortfolio needs for the Northeastern community for both students and faculty. Explore Open Source and commercial tools. Review current University ePortfolio initiatives, Conduct research, and expand the number of ePortfolio projects across the curriculum. Games for Learning
Purpose: Explore educational uses for games and virtual worlds. Conduct research, explore tools, and assess curriculum areas that may benefit from integrating games. Expand use of games across the curriculum.

Dynamic Media Creation
Purpose: Explore opportunities for students to create dynamic media for educational purposes. Investigate tools for participatory learning such as podcasting, digital storytelling, wikis, blogs, tagging, YouTube, Google docs & spreadsheets, etc.

Collaboration & Social Networking Tools
Study social networking tools such as Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, del.icio.us and personal response systems (“clickers”) to discover potential teaching and learning applications. Review current University initiatives, conduct research and expand dynamic media creation and social networking projects across the curriculum.
